An amazing collection of books from the Book Fair in Nagercoil.

This was the first time I was at a book fair in my hometown. There was a 10% off on all books bought from any stall. I liked their arrangement on racks and the colors, but not the price of most books. My friend picked up a few books on gardening and one on business when I was going through the Tamil historical section - yes, I've started to read recently. Have been illiterate for so long!! I felt it was time to change from e-versions and start reading from paper.

I could touch and feel some of the books which were already on my virtual cart including 'Ponniyin Selvan' (5 volumes). I left them behind because I found their prices to be much higher than most leading stores on the web. And the sites also provide free shipping.

It was a fine evening surrounded by books, which made us stay until closing time.

The former chief minister of Tamil Nadu and Congress leader, K. Kamaraj, was remembered on his 109th birthday here in Nagercoil today. Songs about the leader were played at some major signals in town, which made a dull-business Friday into a noisy one.

I shot this when walking aimlessly, with my friend, from Tower Junction towards Anna Bus Stand. Huge garlands hung around the leader's statue thereby even covering his face.

The National Wrestling Championship is being held in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, from July 3 to 5, 2011, organized by the Tamil Nadu State Amateur Wrestling Association. Its a moment of great pride for people of my district to welcome around 900 participants and 100 support staff from various states in India.

This was my first experience watching wrestling, and in my hometown with lots of people in the stadium, I was enthralled and stood/sat there for around 4 hours. I felt the organizing committee or the District Sports Management should have planned the event a bit more well to provide drinking water supply at least to players, as I found the whole stadium littered with plastic water bottles thrown around by players. Move a step and you'd step on a disposed can! There wasn't any trash can too. Being model for a plastic-free district at large, this didn't have any impact on our visitors. Though we needn't have shown placards of 'Quit Plastics,' wasn't it necessary that we kept a trash can at least?

Putting that aside, just many thanks to the Tamil Nadu Amateur Wrestling Association and the organizing secretary, Kalari Selvaraj, for bringing this event to Nagercoil.
